A MOMENTOUS DAY

On a week bookended with my birthday and Mother’s Day what better gift to receive than my Covid vaccine today. A year ago we were just beginning to be aware of this awful virus and here we are only one year later receiving the vaccine. It’s an amazing feat, and the people behind it to be given the highest praise for their dedication. I could never be more thankful. I can now see the light getting even brighter at the end of what has been a very long tunnel. Family and friends will soon be part of our everyday life once again. There will be people around our table once again and once again we can eat drink and be Merry  and I will be more than happy to cook meals for others to share with us. It’s what I love to do and can’t wait to be doing it again. I have missed having family and friends around the table. A few good evenings ahead, and some fun days with the family top of the list. I can’t wait. Spring is on the way and summer close behind and I have a feeling it will be a good one in so many ways.

I have spent a lot of time planning for these times. What to cook and for whom. Who would enjoy a curry, who would like Chinese food, Mexican or  Middle Eastern food which is my new love. I’ve spent hours pouring over cookbooks, bought new ones and poured over those too and more importantly have been practicing a lot. ๐Ÿ˜‚. As the cookbook shelves grew and then outgrew the space the waistline seemed to be taking the same position ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. ( note to self: time running out to get in shape before re entering normal life )

I have definitely found my happy place to be in the kitchen. It has taken my mind off what’s going on, even if just for a little bit. I have handed over food parcels to neighbours from time to time and was able to have my McMillan nurses coffee morning as usual, but with a difference. I offered takeaway and this was very successful. So I baked over a week sending out boxes daily. It was a great way to get around the restrictions. Hopefully next year normal afternoon tea open house can resume.

I’ve crafted, made candles, scrapbooking, sewing and even a bit of knitting. Found out early on that I don’t do jigsaws ๐Ÿ˜‚. We’ve had zoom cocktails with friends, just chats with other friends and tried to keep some normality in our lives. Taken to the “quarantini” hour and found out just how easy it is to acquire the relevant gin needed to make them

So now it’s time to look forward, not back. To look forward to good times ahead and to be thankful that we’ve come through it with hopefully a better appreciation for the simple things in life and with more compassion and thankful for what we have.

I eagerly await the time when we can all enjoy being together once again. Hopefully it won’t be too long. In the meantime I’ll keep cooking, keep practicing ๐Ÿ˜‚ for the momentous day!
