ON THE FIRST DAY of CHRISTMAS

 I admit I’ve neglected this blog for a while. I’m always planning to do it but somehow never quite get to it. So today, with the Christmas closing in fast and finding myself struggling to find the Christmas spirit, I decided to do something about it. 

The thought came to me as I was ironing. There was a piece of tartan fabric lying discarded in the bottom of the basket, it had been lingering there since last year and at first I  toyed with throwing it away but decided to start my Christmas journey by making some napkins. There wasn’t a lot of fabric but enough to get 4 small ones. 30 minutes later I had my napkins, my mood was lifting and lots of Christmas ideas were flooding in  




I dug out my Festive napkin rings and raided the craft cupboard for “Rudolph” style red sparkles to add to the festive spirit. I was happy with the result and definitely says “ It’s Christmas “ 
At this point, pleased with myself I decided I would blog everyday from now until Christmas. I may have overestimated my ability to keep this up but I’ll do my best. 
I plan to blog ideas, recipes, crafts and any other festive ideas I come up with. Some will be short, others will include recipes or links to them. 
Wish me luck. I’ll do my best to live up to it and hope with every passing day my Christmas spirit will be building to the big event.

ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER HOBBY.......

One thing during this lockdown period is that it has me trying all sorts of things I’d never done before. Some I’d thought of, others I never dreamt of doing. Today for example, with the possibility of mandatory face masks on the horizon I decided to make some using up all my fat squares I had lying around. A friend put the idea into my head so I have Christine to thank for this. I enjoyed putting them together. I will pass them on to family or friends as requested.  Candles was one project I’d always planned to do so what better time than now. I sent off for a starter  kit to begin with.  I was quite happy with the results so then moved on to preparing all the ends of candles I had been saving. Had there been no lockdown I wonder if I’d ever got around to using them up! I chopped it very finely, into flakes, then melted as I had with the purchased wax. Thankfully it was quite successful. CHOCOLATE CROISSANTS

 From the moment I saw the recipe in delicious magazine know wanted to have a go. Most of the ingredients were in the larder apart from the chocolate batons. Decided Amazon was easiest option and duly ordered. A few days later they arrived. Not a small box, read, “didn’t read contents” for this, but a whopping 1.75kilos of chocolate batons. Not sure how many but at a rough guess I’ll need to produce in region of 500 croissants to use them all up 😂 May have to sell them from the kitchen window.  Anyway, on the day I had decided to start I assembled ingredients then read through the recipe. What I’d failed to pick up on was that this was not a fast food recipe. This was a Wednesday and following all the steps we could be tucking into them on Friday morning. LEFTOVER DISHES

It would be easy to start off this week’s blog moaning about the restrictions that we have had imposed on us and about the food shortages caused by greedy inconsiderate people.  Instead I am going with a more positive note and be thankful for what we do have, and how meals can be made out of very little.  Today I decided to use up all the bits and pieces in the vegetable drawer which in a day or two, under normal circumstances, would be consigned to the bin. Same with some bits lurking in the back of the freezer which were put there with the best of intentions but somehow got overlooked. A walk at the beginning of the week had me picking the wild garlic which is covering the ground at the moment. I was sure I could put it to some use. Never having used wild garlic before my first thought was soup. Soup features high on my list of easy dishes.
