On the FOURTH DAY of CHRISTMAS………..

Saturday mornings have become a bit of a ritual, Robin walks Hamish, I go for newspapers and rolls and we have our bacon rolls and coffee while watching Saturday Kitchen on TV. Relaxing? that’s being kind, probably lazy is closer to the truth, but it is a lovely way to start our Saturday.

It’s a miserable wet day so the only sensible thing to do was go to my happy place. My kitchen, Time to do some cooking. Oxtails for slow cooking, by tonight we’d have a nice stew, paté from some chicken livers I’d defrosted, some for now and some for freezer to be brought out when needed. I’ve been making the same paté for more years than I care to remember.

Lastly a gingerbread courtesy of Nigella. Nothing says Christmas to me like the small of ginger and oranges 🍊. So as the cake cooks at a low temp I sliced some oranges and put them in oven to dry out. When the cake came out I left them in there to finish the process  so as you can imagine the house was beginning to smell a lot like Christmas.

While the gingerbread was cooking I dug out some Christmas mugs and my Christmas coffee stencils and we enjoyed a nice cup of coffee, sadly no cake as it was still in the oven so a biscuit had to suffice.

Over the next weeks I’ll be filling up the tins with festive bakes and treats, so there will always be something to enjoy with our afternoon coffees.

Then it was time to sit down and watch our first Christmas film of the Season together. Opted for Deck the Halls. Always makes us laugh.
All in all not a bad Saturday.
