ON THE SEVENTEENTH DAY. of CHRISTMAS

Took a trip into town today. Had tried to book a nice lunch but everywhere we tried was fully booked. However given the new covid outbreak we were spoiled for choice when it came to lunchtime. Very sad to see the place so quiet a week before Christmas. Seems there had been lots of cancellations and no shows due to people trying to keep themselves safe before Christmas.

We started with a coffee in Princess Sq. It’s always very festive so enjoyed decor while enjoying a nice  cup of coffee

A walk around the town, browsing but not shopping made it so obvious that the city was quiet.
When it was time for lunch we finally chose The Spiritualist. They were doing small sharing plates and that really appealed. For a bit we were actually the only two people in the place until another couple came in.

We enjoyed a delicious selection of small plates. A smoked salmon tostado, a quirky pig in bao bun which was delicious and something I may well copy over the festive season, and two small sliders. We were also tempted by the salt and pepper fries which were very nice but proved to be a dish too many and we only manged too eat a small amount of them.
Staff were very nice and helpful and I felt really sorry that the business was missing out on the usual Christmas crowds. Perhaps later it would be busier. The staff were definitely hoping so.

Another wander around checking out some of the lights, although still daytime we could still enjoy the twinkling lights of Frasers and Princess Sq.  So all was not lost.

Having had a nice day out it was time to go home to cook for my daughter and family who are coming for an overnight tomorrow. So a stop at supermarket for essential breakfast items and snacks. Kids can pack away a lot of food and this time of year I love having special treats for them to enjoy.

It was nice being in the kitchen cooking for them. I’ve made a lasagne, an chicken and pasta dish, nice to have a choice and there a chocolate orange cheesecake cooling down as I write this. Will post photo too when it’s chilled and out of the tin. Hope it tastes as good as it smells.

Just settling down for a quiet Friday night before kids arrive tomorrow. Will have time to make some fresh mince pies before they descend. Will be lovely having them here for the night.

One thing for sure tomorrow night won’t be as quiet as tonight and I am very happy about that. 😂
