ON the TWELFTH DAY of CHRISTMAS

Today was a good one in terms of getting Christmas ready. First job of the day was to write our Christmas cards. The days of sending masses of cards has gone. People are in contact all the time now via FB, email or through other means. Also everyone is more aware of environmental issues leading to an increase in e-cards which can be fun. So now my cards are for people I really want to send cards to, the important people in my life.

I enjoyed the hour or so it took to write them and for the cards that were going to people I don’t see I was able to remember the good times and fun we’d had together. Always the possibility that one day we will meet up again.

As I wrote the last card I felt that was one of the enjoyable tasks done and looked forward to wrapping gifts.

But first I had mince pies to make. The first ones I’ve made this year. I have made mincemeat buns and madeleines but it’s not Christmas without a mince pie or two. I used my homemade PX sherry mincemeat. First time I’d made it and this was its first time in my pies. I am happy to say they were delicious. Look forward to making more. I have a friend dropping in tomorrow so good to have these in the tin to enjoy with our coffee.

Pies done and sampled I decided to make a start on wrapping. Again I considered the environmental issues and decided to go down the natural route. So with brown wrapping paper, some raffia and dried oranges I started to wrap. I was a bit worried they’d look a bit sad but I was happy with the results. Didn’t get around to all the parcels but have made a good start.
Things moving on along. Do do list slowly shrinking. Another few days and I can relax and spend some more time cooking and maybe even practising the art of cocktails.

Hope you all had a good weekend…………….🎄
