ON the FIFTH DAY of CHRISTMAS……..

Let’s get the Christmas boxes out said Robin. I agreed give me a chance to check everything out. Plan is for tree to go up next weekend so this sounded like a good idea.  30 minutes later and I wished we’d never started!

Thankfully it was the spare room that was now in total chaos. Suddenly it looked like it would be a long day. After a while I was glad to see I’d put them all away last year in some kind of order. What went together was boxed together, well pretty much, .all the lights were together in one box too. Many years ago when I was living overseas I used to wrap the lights around  rolled up Christmas magazines so then when unable to purchase them I always had them, albeit out of date, but always nice to come upon them. Added bonus was lights that didn’t need untangling.

Slowly, very slowly stuff was lying out ready to take its place in the house. At this point I thought I may as well make a start on the window ledges and other areas I like to decorate.

First to get makeover was the areas where the “spirit” of Christmas would be welcome over the festive season 😂

Drinks anyone?

Got to get priorities right and this could be high on the list.
Planning to try a few cocktails in the coming days. Purely of course as quality check before I pass them on to you to try.

So watch this space for a selection of Christmas cheer in a glass. Hopefully there will be something to please everyone, and hopefully the taste test doesn’t get too messy 😂

So once this was done I was on a bit of a roll.
I was emptying boxes and the room was getting a bit tidier. Lights had all had their batteries put in  I always take them out before I pack them away. So once they were all reunited with batteries it was time to move on to step two. Window ledges. Well two. One in kitchen and one in lounge. Other lounge windows are taken up by the tree. Had a quick look back at photos I took last year just to remind me of what goes where and with what. I wouldn’t stick to it completely but gives me a kick start on the job.

Before long I was really into the swing of it and it really was beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. I had top 20 Christmas no.1 hits playing on TV to really add to the festive fun.  Two more tasks completed.

So with both the window ledges dressed, the other two kitchen ones would get candles and I like to use coolie cutters, gingerbread men, or should it be people?  Stars too make nice decorations and easy to get to when making your Christmas cookies 🍪

I was starting to enjoy myself now but a cup of coffee was needed to keep me going. And a piece of yesterday’s gingerbread. Always tastes better day after.

So now I move on to hall. One cupboard to do. The “star” lampshade from a well known Scandinavian Store, I’m sure you know the one I mean, is changed out for the usual one. A few bits and pieces and a candle or two and that’s all that’s needed. Didn’t take long and I was happy with results.
I always like a really nice festive smelling candle so as when people come in they are immediately welcome by the aroma of Christmas. Oranges and cloves are my favourites.

I’m on a roll. One more and I’m finished for the day. Unit in the lounge is last but not least today. Again didn’t take too long to put it together. Benefit of planning before starting and also of thinking about and labelling boxes before I pack them away. So with a bit of tweaking here and there.

New candles I’d bought brought out, immediately I can smell my Christmas is starting to happen. So empty boxes packed away into big boxes. Room still a bit chaotic, but less than is was when I started.

So now I was finished for the day. I was happy with what I’d achieved and was looking forward to doing a few more bits over next couple of days before tree goes up next weekend. But what I’m really looking forward to now is a nice soak in a hot bath. I’ll close spare room door so won’t see the mess, and I can sit tonight and enjoy being surrounded by Christmas decorations. I think I’ve found my Christmas spirit at last.
