ON the SECOND DAY of CHRISTMAS………..

Day two. Out and about I’m seeing signs of the coming festivities. Trees lights shining in windows, carols playing in shops and on the radio. Bit too early for me to put up my tree but a few bits around the house brings the season into the house bit by bit.

For me it’s the smell of Christmas that really encapsulates the season for me. Oranges and cinnamon, mulled wine and Christmas goodies baking in the oven. The easiest way to do this is with candles or burners. But I find putting a few orange slices in a pan with a little water a stuck of cinnamon and a few cloves and let it simmer gently on the cooker top. Very soon you’ll have all the smells of Christmas filling the house.

Another sign that it’s on its way is when I pull out the Christmas cook books and magazines. I can spend a lot of hours drooling over them before cooking and baking the things I always cook at this time of year. It’s all about traditions. The stuffing my gran used to cook, the mincemeat from Delia Smith that I’ve been doing for years, and of course the constant supply of mince pies using the aforementioned mincemeat. Although I do mix these up a bit more these days and I’ll post some various bakes as bake them.

A shop for candles and very soon the house is filling with the aromas of Christmas.

So now on my way to getting the house ready for the season. Plans will now accelerate pretty quickly now I’ve got started. In a few days I will be getting Robin to help me drag out the many boxes stored in hall cupboard, and then the magic will start to happen.

I think I’m beginning to feel the Christmas spirit.🎅
